![]() ![]() Just the man you play as is a raccoon, the damsel in distress is an otter, and the world of The City, based on the city of Vancouver, is filled with anthropomorphic animals. In a way, Backbone isn’t too far from that. When you picture a noir detective thriller, you usually picture men in trench coats solving crimes for damsels in distress. Honestly it wasn't even super clear they were in a giant walled off city till way later in the game so that was confusing to me.Backbone Review – A Raccoon Goon Makes Me Swoon But then Howard escapes and just dies and then credits. I liked the Night In The Woods-esque part where you just wander and talk to all the other homeless animals. Spoiler stuff: I was ok with the alien shit. And from dev interviews it doesn't seem like they agreed with the story criticism so who knows what this will be (of course I can't find the interview anymore and my searches get muddled with "backbone.js interview questions") It honestly feels like they ran out of time and just wrapped up the game and put it out. I don't have a ton of experience with "neo noir" stories so maybe that's the norm but I was super unsatisfied. I was even ok with the "big change" in the second part but it just doesn't fucking do anything with it and there's still a ton of mysteries left unsolved. The first half is really strong and I loved it and then. I'll look forward to it but with much tempered expectations since I got so much whiplash with the first game. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
